Welcome!
Why the DCAA Remains a Viable Organization
This year the DCAA will celebrate its 78th year of service to our profession. Improved communication
methods have changed how claims are reported, processed and paid. Cell phones, computers and email have
been a tremendous benefit to everyone involved in the claim process. (I have no opinion on texting as
my granddaughters have not taught me how to do it yet.) However, these technological advancements have
not replaced the benefits of good claim handling. I suspect that many claim related disagreements could
be prevented had each party been able to explain their point of view while meeting face to face.
One would think that amicable settlement of disputes would be preferred by all parties, attorneys excepted.
Has new technology negated the need for a Claim Association? No, there is still a need for informal
face to face conversations with fellow claims processors and providers of services which assist in
establishing value and aid in a fair claim settlement. As everyone knows it is easy for a minor
disagreement to escalate in to a loud vocal discussion on the phone. When the parties are standing
side by side both parties tend to be a bit more civil to each other. The DCAA provides the opportunity
for those involved in the claims process to get to know each other in a more relaxed atmosphere.
I was taught that Insurance was the grease that enabled our economy to operate. Without the availability
of insurance, business would grind to a halt and banks would not make car or home loans. Everyone
should be proud of the role they play in the insurance industry. Belonging to the DCAA is a little
icing on the cake. One has the opportunity to meet people involved in the insurance industry as well as
learn something interesting from our meeting speakers. So why not join or renew your membership this year.
I am sure you will enjoy the food at our meetings and the companionship of others in our business. If
nothing else you might meet someone who is more overworked than you are. Wouldn't that be nice?
Sincerely,
Carl E. Miller, AIC, CPCU
President, DCAA
Announcements
May Meeting
If you ever wanted to know what a plaintiff attorney considers before they agree to take on a
case, do not miss the May 1 meeting. With the promise that he would not have wear any protective gear we have persuaded
well known and respected Attorney, Patrick Allen to be the guest speaker. I feel certain that everyone will gain a
different perspective after hearing how and why a plaintiff's attorney decides to represent someone. Pat has ageed to
a brief question and answer session as well.
Please call Rob for your reservations or make them via the web site.
